The Dichotomy Chicks

What's up with those perplexing Dixie Chicks? After alienating their fan base by insulting George Bush from a London stage, the ladies fired back with a blazing middle finger of an album. The album has been selling like homemade meth in the Bible Belt. It's been riding high at #1 on the charts since its debut. However, concert ticket sales have been extremely sluggish. Some markets, including Houston, are suspending ticket sales with arenas far from full. Some say the Chicks might even have to cancel their tour. The "experts" explain the dichotomy between strong album sales and weak ticket sales as a reflection of many new fans who have purchased the album as more of a political statement than a musical one. I'm sure there is some truth to this analysis. However, my hunch is that: a) ticket prices are way too high, and b) who wants to attend a concert when the band has received credible death threats? You can listen to the album from the comfort of your own home without having to watch your back for some redneck with a shotgun. While I love making political statements, I'm not prepared to die at the hands of some Bush-loving troglodyte.
